So I stumbled across A.S HOME Kościuszki II during one of those last-minute weekends when you just need to get out of the city, and honestly, it was one of those happy accidents that travel is all about. It’s tucked away on Kościuszki street in Krzyki, which if you’re not familiar with Wrocław, is one of those neighborhoods that’s sort of in between everything – close enough to the action but far enough to feel like you’re not right in the tourist bubble. The building itself is one of those typical Polish apartment blocks, nothing flashy, but there’s something reassuring about how solid it feels. When you walk up to the entrance, there’s this little garden area out front that’s actually pretty charming in the morning light – I mean, there were birds chirping and everything, which sounds cheesy but it’s not something you get in every place you stay.

The room I got was on the third floor (and yes, there’s an elevator, thank god) facing the courtyard, which was actually perfect because even though it was summer, you could still hear the faint hum of the city without it being overwhelming. The beds are definitely the highlight – I slept better there than I have in months, probably because there’s actual blackout curtains and the mattress doesn’t feel like it’s from the eighties. Bathroom was clean, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised, and there’s one of those powerful shower heads that actually work, not just look nice. Now the check-in process was a bit of an adventure – the host speaks Polish and broken English, but she was so genuinely nice that it didn’t matter. She actually gave me recommendations for this little bakery two streets over (Ulica Kazimierza Wielkiego) that had the most incredible pastries I’ve ever tasted. Oh, and parking – well, there’s street parking, but honestly, just take the tram. The area gets pretty busy on weekends, and I saw a few people circling the block looking for spots.

What really sold me on A.S HOME Kościuszki II though was how it felt like a proper neighborhood stay. You know that feeling when you’re staying somewhere and you can tell the locals actually live their lives around you? There’s a little grocery store – Biedronka, which is like the Polish version of everything store – just around the corner, and this fantastic milk bar called Bar Mleczny Pod Różą that serves actual Polish comfort food at prices that’ll make you laugh. The neighborhood quiets down nicely after 10 PM, so if you’re sensitive to noise, that’s a plus, but there’s still enough life that you don’t feel isolated. I’d definitely come back, especially since the price point is reasonable for what you get – and honestly, finding a place in Wrocław that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard is harder than it sounds. The rating of 8.9 is about right – it’s not perfect, but it’s real, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
