Academus Pub & Guest House Overview

Academus Pub & Guest House sits on Kiełbaśnicza 23, right in the heart of Wrocław’s Old Town – you know, the cobblestone maze that feels like you’re stepping into a postcard. The first time I walked in, the smell of roasted coffee beans and fresh bread wafted out from the pub’s open kitchen, instantly making it feel less like a tourist trap and more like a local hangout. The building itself is a classic 19th‑century façade, with a little wooden door that creaks just enough to hint at history. After a quick walk across the square, you’re right by the cathedral and the bustling market stalls where vendors shout the day’s specials. I’d say the vibe is “old‑world charm meets hipster chic,” which is exactly the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve found a secret in a city that’s usually all grand boulevards. The corner café by Szczytnicka Street is a 5‑minute walk away, so you can grab a latte and watch the world go by without having to hop a bus.

The rooms are cozy, more like a guest house than a hotel, which is great if you’re not looking for a spa. Each room has a small kitchenette – perfect for whipping up a quick breakfast or a midnight snack after a night of drinks. The linen is crisp but not overly fancy, and the bed feels like a deep, comfy hug. Check‑in is straightforward: the receptionist (she’s a former schoolteacher, so she’s super friendly) will have you signed up in under ten minutes – no long lines, no mystery paperwork. Parking is bit of a hustle, though: there’s no dedicated garage, but you can snag a spot on the street outside the pub if you’re willing to dodge a few cars. And honestly, the noise at night isn’t a huge deal; the pub’s music keeps it lively, but the rooms are insulated enough that you can’t hear the conversation from the street unless you’re awake at 2 a.m.

What really makes this place shine is the pub itself. They serve a decent selection of local Polish beers and a surprisingly good pizza that comes out of a wood‑fired oven. The atmosphere is laid‑back, with a few regulars who will chat about everything from the latest football season to the best pierogi spots in town. The bar is open until 2 a.m., so if you’re a night owl, you’ll have plenty of time to soak in the city’s nightlife. The only little gripe is that during the summer festival season, the noise can bleed into the rooms, but that’s expected in a place as centrally located as this. Overall, if you’re looking for a place that feels like a home base in the middle of Wrocław, delivers without the fluff. Just bring a bit of patience for parking, and you’ll have a spot to call your own in the city’s beating heart.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Wroclaw at least two months ahead for major events like cultural festivals, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near historic attractions.

Location, kindness & welcome of staff, size of room

  • Apurva from India (8/10)

Great location. Good value for money, especially compared to the adjacent hotels Patio and Art. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean, spacious room with a private bathroom. Cosy pub downstairs. Highly recommend it.

  • Joanne from Australia (8/10)

The location is perfect for enjoying the unique atmosphere of Stare Miasto Wrocław. It is a quirky building, as is the room and the small pub downstairs quite welcoming and friendly. As an older solo traveller I felt quite safe and comfortable there.

  • Olga from Greece (9/10)

I loved the location. It is very centrally located. Also the room was very quiet as it was looking at the backyard.

  • Elisabeth from Austria (9/10)

The guesthouse is right downtown, so when you leave you are in the middle of things, but it is still quiet with the room going out to the back. At least mine was. Even though it was very hot outside the room was cool without AC. With two windows it was easy to air during the night as well.

  • Nicolas from Germany (8/10)

Great location in the centre of Wroclaw, very nice room, tastefully decorated, drinks-making facilities, 24 hour access, helpful staff, no breakfast but there are cafes nearby

  • Jacqueline from Germany (9/10)

Perfect location, very cute pub downstairs, super nice staff, spacy, clean room, fair price – would defo come back! 🙂

  • Sikder from Poland (9/10)

    Clean, friendly host, central location

  • Feder from Italy (8/10)

The room was superconfortable, clean, big enough for 1 or two travellers, and the host was very kind. The position is super central and it was possible to reach all the places in Old town!
