Boutique Apartment – Old Town Overview

So I ended up staying at the Boutique Apartment – Old Town during my recent trip to Wrocław, and honestly, it was one of those pleasant surprises you don’t see coming. I mean, I’d booked it mostly because it was the only place with availability that didn’t cost an arm and a leg in late September, but boy was I lucky. The apartment’s tucked away on Jęczmienna Street, which sounds made-up but it’s actually this charming little cobblestone lane right in the heart of Stare Miasto – you know, that maze of colorful townhouses and hidden courtyards that makes Wrocław so magical after dark.

The check-in experience was refreshingly low-key. No fuss, no waiting around – the host met me right at the entrance and we walked up to the third floor, past these gorgeous original moldings and that faint smell of old wood and polish that you only get in proper European buildings. The apartment itself is compact but thoughtfully designed, with this lovely kitchenette that actually had real coffee filters (thank god, I was getting desperate), and the bed was surprisingly comfortable for a boutique setup. What really sold it though was the window – not overlooking some parking lot, but straight into this quiet courtyard where you could hear church bells and the occasional tram rattling by on Szewska Street.

I should mention, if you’re planning to drive, good luck with parking in the old town area. I didn’t have a car so I can’t complain, but a few guests I chatted with were wrestling with the parking situation. The location, however, couldn’t be beat – within two minutes you’re at the Market Square, and there’s this fantastic little bakery called Piekarnia Bulawa just around the corner that serves the most incredible rye bread. The neighborhood gets a bit lively in the evenings, nothing crazy, but you’ll want to close the windows if you’re a light sleeper. I stayed for four nights and never got tired of wandering those narrow streets – there’s always some tucked-away café or quirky shop you haven’t noticed before. The Boutique Apartment – Old Town felt less like a hotel and more like having a friend in town, which I guess is exactly what you want from a place like this.
