Old Town – Green Apple Overview

So I ended up staying at the Old Town – Green Apple last month, and honestly, it’s one of those places that sort of sneaks up on you. You know how some hotels try too hard with the whole boutique thing? Well, this place just feels… right. It’s tucked away on Pomorska Street, which if you’re not familiar with Wrocław, is one of those quieter streets that runs parallel to the busier Kazimierza Wielkiego – perfect if you want to be close to the action but not right in the middle of it. The building itself has this understated charm, the kind you’d expect from a 4-star spot that’s clearly been around the block a few times.

The lobby smells like those fancy European hotels – you know what I mean, that mix of old wood and something citrusy, probably from the diffusers they have scattered around. Check-in was smooth, which I appreciated since I’d been traveling all day. The staff knew their stuff too, actually mentioning that the quieter side entrance faces the courtyard, which turned out to be a lifesaver when I got back late and didn’t want to navigate through the bar area. My room was on the third floor – and yes, there’s an elevator, thank goodness because the stairs are pretty narrow – overlooked a little inner courtyard, which was surprisingly peaceful given how central you are. The mattress was one of those really good ones that makes everything better, and the shower pressure was actually decent, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places in Europe still can’t get that right.

What really sold me on the Old Town – Green Apple was how it balanced being tourist-friendly without feeling touristy, if that makes sense. There’s a restaurant downstairs that serves proper Polish breakfast – not the watered-down international buffet nonsense – and the coffee was solid enough that I found myself grabbing afternoon shots there during my stay. The location puts you about a seven-minute walk from the Market Square, but here’s the thing: you’re close enough to pop over easily, but far enough that you can actually sleep in when everyone else is dealing with stag parties stumbling around at 2 AM. I mean, you’ll still hear some noise – it’s Old Town after all – but nothing crazy. Parking’s available if you’re driving, though it’s one of those situations where you’re better off just walking since everything’s so compact. Honestly, the only minor gripe I had was that the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty in the evening, probably because everyone’s trying to upload their photos at once, but it was fine during the day. The Green Apple part of the name? I’m still not entirely sure, but there’s this little green apple sculpture in the lobby that’s become sort of a quirky landmark – guests keep leaving photos next to it, which is kind of sweet.
