Retro Apartment Old Town Overview
Retro Apartment Old Town sits on 12 plac Jana Pawła II, perched on the third floor of a charming, slightly crooked building that looks like it’s been there since the Austro-Hungarian days. The first thing that hits you is that unmistakable brick smell that lingers in the hallways—think freshly baked bread and a hint of old stone. I remember stepping in during a drizzle in late October, when the streetlights reflected off the wet cobblestones, and the whole area felt like a living postcard. The check‑in was quick, no long lines, just the front desk clerk—Polish, with a thick accent, who handed me a key and a handwritten note that said, “Enjoy the city, my friend!” (I mean, that’s the vibe here.)
The apartment itself is a cozy 30‑square‑meter space that feels like a slice of home. The living area folds into a futon that’s surprisingly firm, and the kitchenette is stocked with a French press, a kettle, and a handful of local coffee beans you can buy at the nearby market on Świdnicka Street. I found the fridge surprisingly spacious, which is a win when you’re traveling with a couple of bags. The bathroom has that classic 70s tile that’s a bit uneven but adds character, and the showerhead is a bit leaky—so maybe bring a towel to keep it dry. Honestly, the only drawback is the tiny window that lets in a faint hum of the tram line below, but that’s nothing compared to the city’s lively soundtrack of vendors shouting and children laughing.
Getting around is a breeze. There’s a small parking spot on the street that’s free for the first hour, then you pay a nominal fee—good news for the car‑owners. If you’re staying on foot, you’ll find yourself within walking distance of the Old Town Market Square, where the daily fish market is a riot of colors and smells. The next stop, just two blocks away, is the famous Cukiernia Słodki, a bakery that serves the best pierogi in town—don’t skip that. The noise level is moderate; you’ll hear the city buzz, but the building’s walls dampen it enough that you can read a book with a cup of tea. During the peak season (late spring to early autumn), the streets get crowded, but the apartment’s third‑floor location keeps the city’s chatter at a pleasant distance. If you’re a night owl, be aware that the nearby bar on Oławska Street can get loud around midnight, so pack a good pair of earplugs if you’re sensitive.
The staff here are friendly, though they’re mostly young students, so they’re always on the move. They’re quick to answer questions about the best spots to eat—like the tiny, family‑run trattoria on Kłodzka Street, where the pizza has a thin crust that melts in your mouth. They also recommend the best time to visit the Wrocław Cathedral: early morning, when the light hits the gothic arches and you can see the stained glass without the crowds. One small critique: the Wi‑Fi password is written on a napkin, and you have to ask for it—no big deal, but a bit of a hassle. Still, that’s the charming, slightly disorganized vibe that makes Retro Apartment Old Town feel like a real home away from home. And honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you step out onto the cobblestones of Stare Miasto and soak in the city’s history and hustle.

The apartment is very stylish and spacious. And it has an A/c!! It was 90 degrees F in Wroclaw! Apt had very well equiped kitchen. Everything was super clean and in working condition. All kinds of condiments in the kitchen ( coffee/tea etc). I greatly appreciated being able to leave the luggage in the apartment, before we could check in at 3 pm).
